Metal RFID Tags
 |
One of the key factors that have hindered the adoption of RFID technology till now has been the inability to read UHF tags on metallic or liquid objects. But this limitation is fast being overcome as many companies have started developing metal RFID tags that can operate around metal objects and in heavy metal environments. These metal RFID tags are fast replacing the spacer that was earlier being used to lift the tag off the metal.
Nowadays metal RFID tags are finding extensive usage in different RFID applications especially in the mobile assets (like beer kegs, stainless steel bulk food and chemical containers), automobiles and airspace industry.
Metal RFID tags may be active or passive or battery assisted semi active.

| How do RFID metal tags work? |
As it was discovered that radio waves are not only reflected by metals, there are issues caused by eddy currents in the vicinity of reader antenna as well as detuning of both reader and tag antenna thereby causing added parasitic capacitance. There is sudden demand for RFID metal tags that can overcome the challenges caused by heavy metal environments. Each of these RFID metal tags is equipped with a transponder with a small digital memory chip assigned to each product. Then an RFID antenna equipped with a transceiver and decoder emits a signal to activate the RFID tag so that it may store or retrieve the data. When an RFID metal tag passes through the magnetic field, it detects the activation signal and responds to it in a predefined manner.
A number of RFID demo kits are also available at RFID4U, with RFID metal tags as their key elements. We invite you to contact us to learn more about how RFID4U can be an effective part of yourRFID implementation initiative.
