Radio Frequency Identification Technology
 |
Radio Frequency Identification technology is an automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) method. In this, objects are identified and data is about them is entered into the computer automatically. Besides radio frequency identification technology various other popular techniques such as OCR, bar codes, smart codes, etc. come under AIDC. |
Usage of Radio Frequency Identification Technology
In radio frequency technology RFID tags are used for retrieving and storing data. Also known as transponders, RFID tags are small devices that can be attached to humans, products or animals. RFID antennas catch radio frequency signals from the corresponding transceiver. Radio frequency identification technology finds use in the following:-
Standard classroom sessions at our facility and other scheduled locations.
- 13.56 MHz tags are being used in prescriptions for the visually impaired. These tags store information such as drug name, instruction, warning etc that can be read by a battery powered reader.
- Lower frequency tags are used in the identification of pets.
- High frequency tags are used for book tracking in a library management system. Other areas of use include airline baggage tracking, access control and apparel item tracking
- Long range access control for vehicles
- Tracking trucks and trailers in shipping yards.
- Electronic toll collection
- Radio frequency identification technology is now being used for the purpose of authenticating users to achieve secure building access & computer access. This technique also helps to identify fraud in storage of medical records and finds use in anti-kidnapping activities.
