RFID Middleware is playing a key role in the RFID evolution. RFID middleware is used to communicate information to the point of transaction. RFID technology track items at various levels throughout the supply chain. RFID tags containing EPC information about the items being shipped are attached to the case or pallet. Then an RFID reader sends out electromagnetic waves to the RFID antennas present in the RFID tags. The RFID tags communicate the data back to the RFID reader.
The RFID middleware is used manage the RFID readers. It further transfers EPC data from the RFID readers and sends the data to warehouse management systems, enterprise resource planning system, or MES manufacturing execution system.
Thus, in an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system, RFID middleware owes a significant place between the reader and the enterprise systems. The middleware being manufactured by the RFID suppliers must abide to certain specifications as specified by the EPCGlobal. According to these specifications, RFID middleware applications handle the tag and the reader data originating at different ends. Before routing, the data has to be processed as per the requirements of the various applications with the help of RFID middleware. |
